Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of vit B deficiencies. Polynerv 500 Nutritional support in painful neurological manifestations of neuritis & neuropathy eg, cervical & shoulder-arm syndrome, lumbago, ischialgia & sciatica. Neuropathies caused by certain disease states eg, diabetes, RA, TB, leprosy & cardiac disorders. Alcoholic neuropathy & other neuropathies due to intoxication from drugs (ie, INH, phenothiazine). Pregnancy & hyperemesis gravidarum.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prophylaxis 1-2 tab. Therapeutic 2-4 tab. Doses are taken once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Polynerv 250 Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ suspected vit B12 deficiency w/o confirmation of the diagnosis. Cyanocobalamin should not be used in the treatment of megaloblastic anemia of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Cyanocobalamin should not be used in the treatment of megaloblastic anemia of pregnancy. May produce hematological response in patients w/ folate deficiency (doses >10 mcg of vit B12). Monitor blood regularly.
Adverse Reactions
Severe peripheral neuropathy (long-term use).
Drug Interactions
May reduce vit B12 absorption w/ hydralazine, INH, penicillamine & OCs, neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, metformin, histamine H2-antagonists & colchicine. May reduce vit B12 serum conc w/ OCs.
